Welcome to Maths in Everything

This wiki is intended to provide a collaborative base for numeracy related resources. It contains details for embedding numeracy across the curriculum in schools, but also methods that students use in order to improve their numeracy skills. It has developed out of the INSET training of 3 secondary schools looking at numeracy in their schools and how it can be developed. It is definitely intended to be a resource that develops over time and please feel free to make alterations or suggestions for improvement (@talktofile on Twitter or filed@glynschool.org).

Much of the work contained in this site and the associated resources are not original works, but copies or links to work produced by teachers/educators who have developed the resources and shared them (see Contributions and Resources below). I do not claim credit for them, but am collating them all in to one place. Please feel free to add your own resources and ideas including links to external sources. The intention is that you may find resources that can be used FOR THE BENEFIT OF YOUR STUDENTS and that is the sole intention behind this wikispace.

Getting Started

You might want to have a look at the Numeracy section to find out what numeracy is and why it is important.

For Parents

There is a page dedicated to helping parents support their child's development of numeracy.

You might want to take a look at the help sections on how your child's maths teachers might be teaching basic numeracy skills:

For Students

Do you want to understand about a mathematical skill so you can use it in another subject or project. Check out these common ideas:

For Teachers and Educators

You can find some great research documents in the research and resources section. You might be interested in how you can include numeracy across the curriculum in subjects other than mathematics. In this case, you might want to check the following pages:

Contributions and Resources

The sources of information used in producing this wiki are varied. Thank you to the people below for allowing reproduction of their information and resources.

This brilliant non-profit organisation are driving a national agenda of promoting numeracy. They have excellent research documents and a host of experienced professionals behind the scenes.

Suffolk Maths have provided some brilliant resources and ideas for numeracy across the curriculum, with sample presentation and ideas for how to include numeracy in all lessons.

The Maths Zone have also linked several useful documents and presentations on numeracy.

Welcome to Maths in Everything | Getting Started | For Parents | For Students | For Teachers and Educators | Contributions and Resources

This wiki contains ideas to help you develop numeracy in your lessons and across the school. Some of the ideas presented are taken from some excellent numeracy across the curriculum documents produced by Deptford Green School, the Friary School, Leicestershire Numeracy team, All Saints CCFL School, and the Kent Advisory Service (curriculum support in mathematics) amongst others. Please take the time to visit the Resources page to take a look at these documents and the associated weblinks in the Useful Links page (2 really useful ones are the Maths Zone and Suffolk Maths and a good blog post from @numberloving here). Other ideas are developed by teachers/educators who have contributed directly or indirectly to this wiki.
